All great books have a combination of elements that work together as a whole to make the book great, but when one or more of those elements are lacking the book suffers for it. The first element needed is the heart of any book, the story or plot itself. In the medical thriller, Heart Attack, the story is a strong foundation and is a great idea. It's a mystery which does it job and will keep you guessing almost all the way through about who did it, how did they did it, and why did they did it.
Sadly though, the other elements just don't stack up nicely on that foundation and fail to create a great book. To avoid being overly harsh or negative, let's do this as quickly and as factually as possible. The overall narration and the conversations read as monotone (more like a report than a story). The characters were cliche, and though there was an editor named, there were so many errors it became frustrating to read.

In the end, Palo had a fantastic story to tell that feels as if it was molded to fit a cookie cutter shape of a medical mystery. Possibly, as this is Palo's debut novel, it's just a matter of more time and experience that's needed. Either way Palo has a great imagination that, combined with more creative writing knowledge and more writing from the heart/gut, will take her far.
