R.E. Schobernd has brought a "Oh MY God, I have to try this" treat to the cafe today!
Cinnamon Caramel Swirl Bars
Ingredients
1 ½ cups flour 2 eggs
2 tsp. baking powder 1 tbsp. Pure Vanilla Extract
2 tsp. ground cinnamon 1 cup coarsely chopped pecans
¼ tsp. salt 1 pkg. (14 oz.) caramels, unwrapped
1 ½ cups firmly packed brown sugar ¼ cup milk
½ cup (1 stick) butter, melted
Mix, flour, baking powder, cinnamon and salt. Set aside. Mix sugar, butter, eggs, vanilla and pecans until well blended.
Stir in flour mixture. Reserve one cup batter. Spread remaining batter in greased, foil lined 13" x 9" baking pan.
Oven Baking
Bake in preheated 350 deg. oven 15 minutes or until firm.
Microwave caramels and milk in microwavable bowl on HIGH 2 to3 minutes or until caramels are melted, stirring after every minute.
Cool about five minutes or until slightly thickened. Pour over baked layer in pan, spreading to within ½" of edges.
Drop reserved batter by spoonfuls over caramel layer. Cut through batter with knife several times for marble effect.
Bake 15 to 20 minutes longer or until center is set. Cool on wire rack. Cut into bars.
Makes 2 dozen.
